A2 (304) is the standard grade of stainless steel fastener and the right choice for the large majority of indoor and general outdoor work. It resists rust in normal room, workshop and garden conditions without the price uplift of marine grade.

When to choose A2 (304)

When to step up to A4 (316)

Choose A4 (316) marine grade for coastal sites, boats, swimming pools, and bathrooms or kitchens that stay humid. The molybdenum in A4 resists the chloride pitting that can bloom rust on A2 in those conditions.
