Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Materials and grades
What's the difference between A2 and A4 stainless steel?
A2 (also called 304) is our everyday workhorse grade - excellent corrosion resistance for indoor, outdoor and workshop applications. A4 (316) is marine grade - it contains added molybdenum which dramatically improves resistance to chloride pitting from salt water. Use A4 for anything within 5km of the coast, marine fittings, or in salt-spray environments. A2 for everything else.
Are all your fasteners stainless steel?
Yes. Every product in the Simfix range is A2 (304) or A4 (316) stainless steel - no mild steel, no zinc-plated carbon steel.
What's the load rating of your bolts?
Our bolts conform to standard DIN / ISO mechanical property specs for the grade shown. For example, DIN 933 A2 hex set screws meet A2-70 property class as standard. For specific tensile/yield data on a given size, contact contact@simfix.com.
Sizing
How do I read fastener sizes?
Sizes use the M-code system: M[diameter] × [length in mm]. For example, M8 × 30 is 8mm thread diameter, 30mm long under the head. For nuts and washers, only the diameter applies (e.g. M10). Our Size Guide has the full reference.
What's a DIN / ISO / BS standard?
These are international engineering standards that fix the dimensions, head shape, thread profile and tolerances of a fastener. Same standard from any reputable supplier means an identical part - interchangeable. Our Material Guide explains the most common standards.

Pack sizes and Trade pricing
What's the difference between DIY and Trade packs?
Every product is available in two sizes: a smaller DIY pack (typically 10-25 pieces) for one-off jobs and a larger Trade pack (typically 50-500 pieces) at a lower unit price for bigger runs. You select the pack size as a variant on each product page.
Do I need a Trade account?
No. Trade pack pricing is built into the variant - anyone can order any pack size with no application or approval. See our Trade Account page for more on bigger orders and bespoke quotes.
