Stainless steel socket set screws, also called grub screws, in A2 (304) and A4 (316). They have no head: they sit inside the part and drive with a hex key, which makes them the usual choice for locking pulleys, collars and handles onto shafts.
- Cup point (DIN 916): the most common, with a hollow end that grips the shaft.
- Flat point (DIN 913): a flat end that marks the shaft least.
- Cone point (DIN 914): a pointed end for locating in a dimple.
- Dog point (DIN 915): a short peg end that locates in a hole or slot.
Choose A4 for coastal, marine and salt-exposed environments.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a grub screw and a set screw?
In the UK, a set screw is a fully threaded hex head screw (ISO 4017 or DIN 933). A grub screw has no head at all; it sits inside the part and is driven with a hex key. Simfix lists grub screws as socket set screws, with cup, flat, cone or dog points to DIN 913 to DIN 916, in A2 (304) from M1.6 to M20 and A4 (316) from M2 to M20.
