Frequently asked questions
What types of stainless steel washer does Simfix stock?
Flat washers in Forms A, B, C and D, large and small diameter washers, penny washers, spring washers in rectangular, square, curved and conical forms, tooth, crinkle, wavy and tab lock washers, and specialist washers including bonded sealing, square plate, taper and cup washers. Most come in both A2 (304) and A4 (316).
What is a Form C washer used for?
A Form C washer (BS 4320) has a larger outside diameter than a standard Form A washer, which spreads the clamping load over a wider area. Use it where the material under the bolt head is soft, thin, or has an oversized clearance hole, such as softwood decking or thin sheet. Simfix stocks Form C washers in A2 from M4 to M30, and in A4 in M4, M5, M6, M8, M12, M14, M16, M20, M24, M27, M30, M33 and M36.
Does a spring washer stop a bolt coming loose?
A rectangular section spring washer (DIN 127-B) gives some resistance to loosening under light vibration, by staying under compression as the bolt settles. For joints exposed to significant vibration, such as trailers or machinery, a nyloc (nylon insert) nut gives more reliable resistance than a spring washer alone. Simfix stocks both.
What sizes of stainless steel washer does Simfix stock?
Form A flat washers run from M1.6 to M64 in both A2 (304) and A4 (316). Form B goes up to M39, Form C up to M36, rectangular section spring washers up to M42, and penny washers from M3 to M12. Not every size is held in both grades, and each product listing is a single size.
