Should I choose A2 or A4 stainless steel for engineering fixings?

Choose A2 (304) for dry workshop and general indoor use. Choose A4 (316) where fixings stay wet, sit outdoors or are used near the coast, because it resists chloride pitting. Here just over half of products are A2 and about 40% are A4. Spring pins, circlips and most weld studs are listed as stainless steel without a grade. See the A2 v A4 guide.

What sizes of socket and hex screws does Simfix list for engineering?

Sizes depend on the type. DIN 912 socket cap screws run M3 to M20, ISO 10642 countersunk socket screws M3 to M16 and M20, socket set screws M3 to M12 and M16 (M20 in flat and cup point), hex bolts M5 to M12 and hex set screws M3 to M12 and M16. M14 is not listed in the socket set or hex set screw ranges.

What do A4-70 and A4-80 mean on socket and hex screws?

In A4-70 and A4-80, A4 is the stainless steel alloy group and the number is the property class. Class 80 is the higher class. In this collection they appear mainly on DIN 912 socket cap screws, DIN 933 hex set screws and DIN 931 hex bolts. Most other products are listed by grade only. See the fastener glossary.
